What Is the Most Unsettling Question for the Atheist?

– [Ligon Duncan] I have never heard a
compelling case by an atheist thinker about what is true, what is good,
what is beautiful, and is there ultimate meaning? I’ve seen pagans appeal to other kinds of
theism to give answer to those things. And as a Christian, I have a theistic
answer to that because I believe that there is objective truth and I believe
that there is objective morality and I believe that there is objective beauty in
this world and I believe that there is real meaning. But from an atheist framework,
I’ve never seen a convincing or compelling case for the true, the good,
the beautiful, or for real meaning in life. And I think that really ought to bother
atheists.
