THE SUSPECT SAYS HE WAS THE TARGET OF VERBAL AND PHYSICAL ABUSE AND TOOK REVENGE. CBS 2’S TONY AIELLO HAS MORE. Reporter: AT THE BRONX SCHOOL THAT BECAME A HOMICIDE SCENE, RED FLAGS ABOUT SAFETY CONCERNS. AN ANNUAL SURVEY SHOWS JUST 55% OF STUDENTS FEEL SAFE IN THE HALLWAYS AND CAFETERIA HERE. 92% OF TEACHERS REPORT STUDENT BULLYING IS AN ISSUE. I HAVE BEEN BULLIED HERE ALL MY LIFE. AND I HAVE TO, YOU KNOW, FIGHT MY OWN BATTLES. Reporter: THIS STUDENT SAID HE IS NOT AWARE OF ANTI- BULLYING RESOURCES HERE EVEN THOUGH THE SCHOOL’S COMPREHENSIVE EDUCATIONAL PLAN SAYS 100% OF STUDENTS GO THROUGH THE CITY’S RESPECT FOR ALL ANTI-BULLYING CURRICULUM. AND THE ADMINISTRATION DEFENDS EFFORTS TO IMPROVE THE SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT. THE SCHOOL UNDER THIS PRINCIPAL HAS REALLY REFOCUSED ON PROVIDING SOCIAL EMOTIONAL SUPPORTS TO STUDENTS AND RECOGNIZES THE IMPORTANCE OF SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING TO HELP STUDENTS FEEL COMFORTABLE AND SAFE. MANY KIDS REALIZE IF THEY DO TELL, THEY BECOME SNITCHES AND THEY ARE GOING TO BE IN TROUBLE WITH THEIR PEERS.
